DC loads
DC loads are indispensable in a wide range of applications, serving as essential components for testing, calibrating, simulating and maintaining electronic systems and devices.
In laboratory and test environments, DC loads allow engineers and technicians to evaluate the performance of DC power supplies, batteries and other electronic devices under controlled conditions. They are used to perform various tests, including power and efficiency tests, to ensure that devices meet specifications and standards.
The tests can be performed in Constant Current mode, Constant Voltage mode, Constant Resistance mode, Constant Power mode or a combination of these.
In TTMS’ product portfolio, we have DC loads in a voltage range from 0-10V through to 0-2250V and current ranges from a few fA to 10,000A and more. And this then with powers from a few watts to in the mega watt range.
In certain applications, the dynamic range is also important. Obviously depending on the model but this goes up to a maximum of 150kHz. There are also multi-channel DC loads available that can test synchronised multi-channel power supplies. Consider, for example, a PC power supply with multiple output voltages.
Typical applications for DC loads are testing DC power supplies, discharging batteries, testing fuses and relays, Fuel Cell testing, LED simulation, testing DC/DC converters, testing fast chargers for the EV market and many others.
We carry a very wide range of DC loads from multiple manufacturers, each with their specific advantages and disadvantages. Let us know your application and we will help you select the right DC load for your application.
Regenerative DC loads
Regenerative DC loads are capable of not converting the energy they absorb into heat as with conventional DC loads, but instead delivering the released energy back to the power grid. At a time of global warming and high energy costs, this is quite a saving. Especially when you also consider that, in combination with conventional loads, we often use air conditioning to cool the test room.
In the range of regenerative DC loads at TTMS, today we already see models with powers as low as 200 watts and then through to powers in the mega watts. With a voltage range starting from 0-60V and then through to 0-2250V, and current ranges from a few Amps to 10,000A and more, we do cover the most common applications in our market segment.
The dynamic range of regenerative DC loads is a lot lower than for conventional DC loads. This is due to the technology used to supply energy back to the grid as well. Usually, we don’t get further than a few hundred Hz with a regenerative DC load.
Of course, we can also work with the regenerative DC loads in Constant Current mode, Constant Voltage mode, Constant Resistance mode, Constant Power mode or a combination of these.
Applications include testing batteries, LED drivers, Fuel cells, EV fast chargers, battery chargers, burn-in testing, semiconductor testing and many others.
