Measuring electrical power is more than multiplying voltage and current. Advances in complex power electronics and energy efficiency create measurement challenges that can confuse even the most experienced engineers. Besides the standard 50/60 Hz applications, switching frequencies and higher harmonics of up to 100kHz+ occur today.
Unlike data acquisition and oscilloscope-based power measurement instruments, power meters / power analysers are purpose-built to ensure measurement accuracy when testing devices that generate, transform or consume electricity.
TT&MS supplies power meters / power analysers from the world’s leading suppliers such as Yokogawa and Vitrek. These provide solutions for testing power electronics, inverters, motors and drives, lighting, home appliances, office equipment, power supplies, industrial machinery and more.
For standard applications, we have power meters with a bandwidth of up to 100 kHz with a simple and clear reading. Besides the standard 1 and 3 channel versions, we also have 8 channel power analysers which are particularly suitable for measuring PWM motor controls. Multi-channel power analysers are available with a bandwidth of, say, 1MHz to 20MHz.
And then there are specials in the form of specific power analysers for harmonic and flicker measurements according to IEC61000-3-2, IEC61000-3-3, IEC61000-3-11 and IEC61000-3-12 standards. For loss measurements on transformers (accurate phase measurement at a very low power factor) and especially for measuring standby power. (Energy Star®, SPECpower and IEC62301 / EN50564 testing, battery charger and other low-level power measurements).
