H&H PMLA Multi-Channel Loads

The H&H PMLA series is a multi‑channel electronic load: extremely flexible, scalable, and precise. It is designed for test environments where multiple independent or synchronously switched load channels are required. The series combines a modular design with powerful functionality, allowing users to configure up to 96 individual channels within a single system. Thanks to galvanic isolation between all channels, complex and safe test setups can be created without the risk of mutual interference.

The PMLA series consists of three variants: Standard, Low Power (LP), and High Power (HP). These variants are fully interchangeable, enabling the construction of a system that precisely matches the required power levels, number of channels, and desired test functionality. A master unit with a graphical touch interface controls all modules, while slave units expand the system with additional channels or higher power.

H&H PMLA Standard – Flexible and Powerful

The Standard variant offers up to 12 channels in a compact 2U enclosure. Modules are available in power ratings of 150W, 300W, 450W, and 600W, with voltage ranges of 40V, 60V, 120V, and 240V. Maximum current is 120A. The total power capacity is up to 1,800W in a single 2U 19” chassis. This makes the Standard version suitable for a wide range of applications, from automotive electronics to power modules and DC distribution systems.

H&H PMLA LP – Low‑Power Variant

The low‑power variant is designed for test environments requiring many channels with lower power levels. A 3U enclosure can integrate up to 72 channels, with modules of 30W, 60W, 90W, and 120W. Voltage ranges include 10V, 40V, 60V, and 120V, with currents up to 32A. The total power capacity is up to 2,160W in a single 3U 19” chassis. The LP variant is ideal for testing sensors, ECU outputs, e‑fuses, wiring harnesses, and other low‑power electronics.

H&H PMLA HP – High‑Power Variant

The high‑power variant provides a single powerful channel of 1,400W or 2,100W in a 2U enclosure. This version is always used as a slave and is available in 60V, 120V, and 240V, with currents up to 180A. Thanks to robust copper busbar connections, this variant is suitable for heavy DC applications such as DC/DC converters, power modules, and energy‑storage testing.

Advanced Functionality and Test Capabilities

The H&H PMLA series offers a wide range of features enabling both static and dynamic testing. Each module supports CC, CV, CR, and CP operating modes, including combination modes such as CC+CV or CP+CC. This allows both simple and complex load scenarios to be simulated.

For dynamic tests, the LIST function is available, enabling waveform programming with adjustable ramp and dwell times. The PMLA also supports MPP tracking, continuously searching for the maximum power point of devices such as solar cells or DC generators.

The built‑in discharge function allows controlled discharging of batteries, ultracaps, and other energy‑storage components in CC, CP, or CR mode. Stop criteria can be set based on energy, time, voltage, or current.

Each module also includes a watchdog function, adjustable over‑ and undervoltage protection, over‑temperature protection, and reverse‑polarity indication, ensuring optimal protection for both the instrument and the device under test.

Interfaces and Integration

The H&H PMLA series is designed for easy integration into both manual and fully automated test environments. The master units feature a 4.3” TFT touch display for local operation, while all variants come standard with USB, LAN, RS‑232, CAN, and analog I/O. GPIB is available as an option.

For synchronization between multiple devices, H&H offers the SyncroLink interface, minimizing jitter between units. This enables multiple load channels to switch simultaneously, even when originating from different series. The internal data logger allows measurement data to be stored with timestamps, while IEEE 488.2 binary block transfer ensures fast data transmission to external systems.

The H&H PMLA Multi‑Channel Load Series delivers a combination of modularity, precision, and scalability. With variants for low, medium, and high power, up to 96 channels per system, and an extensive set of test features, the PMLA series is suitable for virtually any DC test environment. Whether for automotive electronics, energy storage, power electronics, or mass‑production testing, the PMLA series provides the flexibility and reliability modern test laboratories require.
