The Grid Emulator IT7900 from Itech

The Itech Grid emulator, model IT7900, is a 4-quadrant AC/DC power supply with extreme functionality in one unit. And let’s go ahead and name a few features;

  • It is an AC power supply, it is a DC power supply, it is an AC power supply with a DC offset capability and it is a DC power supply with the capability of an AC ripple.
  • In AC grid emulator mode, all kinds of grid distortion and harmonics can also be generated. Even arbitrary waveforms.
  • The grid emulator can both deliver power and absorb power where this power is delivered back to the grid.
  • It is a four quadrant amplifier. (For especially also PHIL applications).
  • The unit can be used for single phase grid, three phase grid, reverse phase grid (for 700Vrms) and multi-channel single phase AC power supply. With multiple units, it is also possible to emulate a 6 phase grid or 12 phase grid.
  • A professional anti-islanding test mode is provided where RLC (resistance-induction-capacity) parameters are definable for testing the Anti Island detection circuits.
  • Also built in is an accurate Power Analyzer with a multitude of measurements including harmonic distortion. With the built-in data logger function, you can also store the measurement results in the internal memory for a long time.

This IT7900 series consists of six models. A single phase 5KVA unit, a single or three phase 6kVA/9kVA/12kVA and 15kVA unit and a 15kVA slave unit. By combining one master with 10 slave units, it is easily possible to create a 165kVA grid emulator.

Do you need more power? You can. We can connect up to six master units in parallel up to a maximum power of 960kVA.

SPECIFICATIONS

Here are some basic specifications of the Itech IT7900 models. The output voltage per phase is 0-350Vl-n and the frequency range is 16Hz to 150Hz. The unit has a programmable output impedance and can also be used for pre-compliance testing as IEC61000-4-11/4-13/4-14 and 4-28. The phase angle can be set between 0 degrees and 360 degrees for both startup and shutdown of a DUT.

The unit normally operates in a Constant Voltage mode (like all AC power supplies) but also has a current limit setting and a power limit setting. If the current or power reaches the limit, the unit does not shut down but reduces the voltage so that applications with high inrush current can still start up.

The IT7900 series is therefore extremely versatile and suitable for testing solar panel inverters, UPS systems, (bi-directional) charging stations, Power Hardware In The Loop, testing energy storage systems, testing all grid related products against existing standards, testing DUTs with high inrush current and many other applications.

An extremely versatile instrument that really every test engineer should have on his desk.
