Magna‑Power SLx Series DC Power Supplies

The Magna‑Power SLx Series is a versatile family of programmable DC power supplies designed for demanding applications in research and development, industrial automation, and process control. The series combines high power density with precise digital regulation, extensive communication capabilities, and a robust mechanical design. The SLx Series is available from 1.5 kW to 10 kW and offers a wide range of voltage and current configurations. All models are housed in a compact 1U enclosure, providing substantial power without unnecessary use of rack space.

Precise Digital Control

The SLx Series offers fully programmable control of voltage, current, and power. The MagnaLINK™ digital control architecture uses distributed DSP processors to deliver fast and accurate regulation. Features such as 16‑bit programming resolution, programmable slew rates, sequencing, and function generation make the power supply suitable for both precision laboratory testing and automated industrial applications. The current‑fed power processing topology provides a high degree of control and protection. Combined with modern SiC power semiconductors, the SLx Series delivers high efficiency, reliability, and power density, with continuous full‑power operation at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C.

Extensive Automation Capabilities

The SLx Series is designed for easy integration into automated systems. USB and RS485 are available as standard interfaces, while optional communication options include CANopen, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, LXI Ethernet, Modbus‑TCP, and PROFINET. Through SCPI and Modbus, more than 60 commands can be used to set voltage, current, and power, read measurement values, and control the power supply. Each unit also includes a configurable 26‑pin User I/O interface with analog and digital inputs and outputs.

User‑Friendly and Safe Operation

In addition to remote control, the SLx Series can be operated directly from the front panel. The bright display, precision rotary encoder, and numeric keypad make local configuration straightforward. With the included MagnaCTRL software, users can perform control, monitoring, configuration, calibration, and firmware updates from a computer. For safe operation, the power supply includes comprehensive protection features against overvoltage, overcurrent, overpower, and overtemperature. An interlock and dedicated hardware emergency stop are standard. The Target Diagnostics functionality further simplifies troubleshooting and configuration analysis.

Scalable and Configurable

When higher output current is required, up to 12 SLx units can be linked in a master‑slave configuration via MagnaLINK™. Several hardware variants are available, including a ruggedized version for harsh environments and a water‑cooled version for densely packed system cabinets. With output voltages up to 3,000 VDC (depending on configuration), power levels up to 10 kW, and efficiencies up to 95%, the SLx Series offers broad applicability across test, research, and industrial environments.
