The frequency response analyzer (FRA) is a high-precision instrument that is applied to analyze components, circuits, and systems (abbreviated as DUT: Devices Under Test) in the frequency domain. Usually, the FRA generates a sinusoidal signal for this purpose, which is applied to the DUT. This signal is measured both at the DUT’s input and output. In order to determine the DUT’s response over a wider frequency range, a ‘sweep’ is executed with which the sinusoidal signal runs through a user-defined frequency range.

This instrument is just as important to a hardware engineer as, for example, an oscilloscope, as this precision-instrument can determine the transfer characteristics, (resonance) response of input, RF, and EMC filters, transistors, voltage regulators, signal transformers, cables, and measurement and control systems, such as servo motor controls, the AC impedance of fuel cells, and many other DUTs.

TTMS offers NF Corp. and Newtons4th frequency response analyzers.
