Aerospace and aviation, electrical testing solutions

Commercial and military aircraft systems are also subject to changing test requirements and power levels, and must comply with numerous AC and DC voltage standards. On-board electrical systems have evolved from their original 115Vac L-N/208Vac L-L at a fixed frequency of 400Hz to more advanced on-board systems operating at the familiar 115Vac and 230Vac supply voltages, with frequencies ranging from 360Hz to 800Hz. This variable frequency range simplifies the mechanical complexity of the motor-driven electric generators. The AC frequency varies with the motor speed.

Commercial avionics test standards such as DO-160 and EuroCAE 14 include a wide range of AC power immunity tests that must be performed on aviation electronics. In addition, various commercial aircraft manufacturers have developed their own versions of these test standards, largely based on DO-160. Examples include Airbus ABD0100.1.8 (A380), ABD0100.1.8.1 (A350), Airbus AMD24C (A400M), and Boeing B787 (Dreamliner).

Military avionics must comply with standards such as MIL-STD-704. These standards are evolving in the same way as commercial standards.

TT&MS BV provides consulting services and supplies leading-edge test and measurement equipment for aerospace testing solutions, including specialized AC power supplies for generating and simulating various on-board power supplies in accordance with the required specifications.

The power supply systems used in various avionics applications can vary, and even within the same standard specification, there are differences between versions. High-quality AC power supplies and professional software test tools are therefore indispensable.
