The Vitrek 98x series, consisting of the 981i and 983i models, has been developed to meet the highest requirements in the field of insulation resistance and high voltage measurements. At a time when electric vehicles and solar energy systems are operating at increasingly higher voltages, traditional testers are often no longer adequate. The 98x series offers a solution with test voltages up to 6.5 kVDC for the 981i and even 11 kVDC for the 983i. This makes these instruments ideal for both R&D and production environments where reliability and precision are of paramount importance.
Power and flexibility
What makes the 98x series unique is its combination of high measurement accuracy, speed and flexibility. Thanks to the use of DSP technology, these instruments can be used with capacitive loads, which many other testers struggle with. With a measurement range up to 150 TΩ and picoampere accuracy, even the smallest leakage currents can be reliably recorded. The built-in dual Coldfire® microprocessors and DSPs also ensure very fast measurements, with dwell times that can be reduced to just 100 milliseconds.
Another distinctive feature is the ability to control multiple test points in a single setup. The 981i and 983i can directly control up to 256 test points via HV scanners, and this number can be expanded to as many as 1020 test points using Vitrek’s Q-Test software. This makes the series particularly suitable for testing cable harnesses, PV panels and other complex systems with many connections.
Advanced testing capabilities
The 98x series offers features that make the testing procedure more efficient and reliable. With the Multi-Dwell functionality, different voltage levels can be applied within a single test without having to reset the voltage to zero each time. This greatly simplifies the analysis of dielectric properties. In addition, the user can choose from multiple IR test modes, such as time-out, pass, fail or a stable or rising measurement.
Unlike many conventional IR testers, the 981i and 983i are not limited to a few fixed voltage levels, but offer a continuously adjustable output voltage. For the 981i, the range runs from 30 volts to 6.5 kilovolts, while the 983i delivers voltages from 60 volts to 11 kilovolts – both with a resolution of 1 volt. This gives the user maximum control and flexibility in a wide range of test scenarios.
Ease of use and integration
Despite their powerful performance, the 981i and 983i are designed with ease of use in mind. Weighing only 5 kilograms, the instruments are light and easy to handle. They come standard with Ethernet, RS232 and digital I/O, making them easy to integrate into an automated test environment. For applications where this is necessary, a GPIB interface can also be added as an option.
The testers also feature functions such as automatic fixture and cable compensation, minimising sources of error caused by connections. For devices that cannot be isolated from earth, there is the optional HSS2 high-side sense module, which enables accurate measurements on earthed loads.
Reliability and certification
The Vitrek 98x series combines high performance with proven reliability. The instruments come with a standard one-year warranty, which can be extended to three years with annual calibration. They are certified to EN 61010-1 for safety and comply with the EN 61326-1 EMC standard, as well as the RoHS directives. Upon delivery, you will receive a set of shielded test leads, a power cord and a NIST-traceable calibration certificate as standard.
Applications
The Vitrek 98x series is ideal for:
> Electric vehicles and EV charging technology
> High-voltage solar panel arrays
