Pacific Power’s AZX series are available in units of 30kVA, 45kVA and 55kVA with the ability to switch in parallel and cover a capacity of up to 220kVA and above. This high-end series from Pacific Power is specifically designed for the most demanding applications where an ultra stable and clean source is required. To ensure uncompromising performance in both AC and DC, the power supplies are equipped with Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology. The models in this range offer both single-phase, split-phase and 3-phase output configurations, fully independently configurable.

High accuracy
High accuracy is required to test and validate demanding designs. This AZX series can deliver voltages up to 760Vac (L-L) and 650Vdc with a precision of 0.1%. Even under full load, this source generates a pure voltage with minimum noise (< 250mV) and distortion (< 0.2%) . The AZX has a fundamental frequency range up to 1000Hz with an accuracy of 0.005%. The wide frequency range comes in handy to deploy the power supply for aerospace and defence power applications where 400Hz ‘fixed’ or 360Hz-800Hz ‘wild’ frequencies are used.

Bipolar and Regenerative
The Pacific Power AZX series is a bipolar or 4-quadrant regenerative design. The power supplies are able to both supply and absorb energy. Thanks to the regenerative concept, the absorbed energy is not converted into heat but fed back into the grid, which is a clear saving on energy costs. The AZX is therefore ideally suited for testing bi-directional designs, nowadays very topical in the world of renewable energy. Think of bidirectional charging stations, bidirectional inverters in electric cars or hybrid inverters of solar and wind farms.

Comprehensive functionality
All AZX models feature advanced waveform programming capabilities, making it no problem to reproduce every conceivable waveform. The Pacific Power AFX is also equipped with 200 pre-programmed AC waveform patterns and distortion effects. These programmed waveforms can be customised by the user by specifying the amplitude and phase angle.

The AFX also offers a user-friendly solution for simulating voltage and frequency fluctuations with a List mode, Pulse mode and Step mode. Here, the user can easily vary the frequency, amplitude and DC offset as a function of time. Thus, sequences containing up to 200 steps can be built for the 3 stages separately or simultaneously.

With the available PPSC Manager Windows 10 software, compliance tests are available for avionics such as the DO160, Mil-Std 704, Airbus ABD0100.1.8, ABD0100.1.8.1, AMD24D and Boeing B787 standards. Commercial standards such as IEC 61000-4 mains voltage immunity tests and IEC61000-3 EMC tests are also present. In DC mode, emerging test standards for electric vehicles and batteries can also be supported.

For real-time Power Hardware in the Loop (PHIL) grid simulation applications, Pacific Power offers the ability to get started with a set of high-speed analogue inputs and outputs with very fast output response.

The AZX’s controller offers both a clear manual user interface and fully programmable control with LAN with LXI, USB, GPIB and RS232 communication interfaces. The power supply can also be controlled via WIFI and an HDMI output is provided to connect an external monitor.

Extremely versatile
In all specifications, the AZX series goes just a little further than what the competition does:

The voltage range is 0-225V or 0-440Vac. This covers all common grids around the world as an area of application.
The unit has a frequency range of up to 1000Hz. Particularly useful for Avionics applications.
The unit has an internal arbitray function generator.
Of course, you can also programme harmonics.
The unit has a programmable output impedance. This is also for the purpose of IEC standard testing.
In AC load mode, it is possible to programme a phase shift from -90° to +90° between voltage and current.
In regenerative load mode, the absorbed energy is not converted into heat but is fed back to the grid. (option L)
This unit can also be used as an amplifier in Power Hardware In the Loop applications. (option H)
Different sequences can be programmed in LIST, STEP and PULSE mode.
Optionally, it is also possible to operate the three phases completely independently by means of three single-phase AC power supplies.
Using the clear menu, operation is very easy.
And of course, extensive software solutions are also available for more complex applications where control can take place via the LAN, USB, RS232 or GPIB interface. Even a Wi-Fi connection is possible.
