The Itech IT7900P series of regenerative grid emulators complements the IT7900 series grid emulator introduced several years ago. The IT7900P series high-performance regenerative grid emulator uses advanced SiC technology and offers an all-in-one test solution. Deployable as a Grid emulator, as an AC/DC power supply and as a four-quadrant power amplifier. And thus extremely suitable for “Power Hardware in the loop” (PHIL) applications.
In addition, the -P version can be used as a four-quadrant regenerative AC/DC electronic load. The AC load function in particular adds impressive functionality such as, support for CC/CP/CR/CS/CC+CR/CE operating modes. Circuit Emulation mode (CE) allows simulation of different circuit typologies such as single-phase rectifier RLC and shunt RLC. The phase angle is adjustable over the range -180º~180º.
The IT7900 and IT7900P high-power regenerative programmable AC/DC Grid emulators are available in a 5kVA, 6kVA, 9kVA, 12kVA and 15kVA version. Through master/slave configurations and parallel switching, these are expandable up to 960kVA.
Let’s start with some basic specifications. Starting with the 6kVA version, there is a possibility of a single-phase output, a three-phase output, a “reverse phase” output for high voltages and a multi-channel output with three, independently adjustable, single-phase outputs. The unit can be used for single-phase grid, three-phase grid, reverse phase grid (for 700Vrms) and multi-channel AC supply. With multiple units, it is also possible to emulate a 6-phase grid or 12-phase grid. The voltage of each phase is adjustable up to 350V L-N and the frequency from 16Hz – 2,400Hz. In AC load mode, the frequency is 16-500Hz. The phases are also individually adjustable from 0° – 360°, allowing, among other things, an unbalanced grid to be simulated. In AC grid emulator mode, all kinds of grid contamination and harmonics can also be generated, even arbitrary waveforms.
The grid emulator can both supply power and absorb power with this power being fed back to the grid. A professional anti-islanding test mode is provided where RLC (resistance-inductance-capacity) parameters can be defined for testing Anti Island detection circuits. It is a four quadrant amplifier, particularly for PHIL applications as well. There is also an accurate Power Analyzer built-in with a multitude of measurements including harmonic distortion. With the built-in data logger function, you can also store measurement results in the internal memory for long periods of time.
The multi-functional IT7900P power supply gives the user a choice of no less than four different output modes, namely AC, DC, AC + DC and DC + AC.There is thus the possibility of simulating both an AC grid and a DC grid. But also an AC grid where a DC offset applies. It is even possible to simulate a DC grid with an AC ripple.
If testing to IEC EMC standards or Aerospace Defence standards is required, the IT7900P is an ideal partner. To save the user time, the power supply is equipped with pre-programmed routine tests for IEC61000-4-11, 13, 14, 17 and 28 standards. All possible grid distortions and events can be applied to the waveforms.
These include spikes, dips, interrupts, sags and surges. Using the STEP, LIST and PULSE modes, the various simulations can also be coupled.Harmonic distortions (up to the 50st at 50 or 60Hz) and interharmonic distortions can also be generated.
The IT7900P also features an accurate and comprehensive Power analyser. Parameters such as Crest factor, power factor, active, reactive and apparent power are measured and optionally also stored in the internal memory for trend investigation. With the trend analysis function, these measured values can then be displayed graphically in detail.
The Itech IT7900P high-power programmable AC/DC power supply features a clear and user-friendly user interface, to be operated via a large high-resolution touch-display or with the PC software. Common communication ports such as USB, LAN, CAN and Digital I/O are provided as standard. Optional GPIB and RS232 are also available.

ABB
"The ABB Power Grids Jumet organisation is an innovative development and production facility of ABB that manufactures active filters and battery energy storage systems to support a stable grid. To test these systems we have acquired two Cinergia GE/EL +120kVA eplus units capable of doing grid emulation (AC + DC), operating as an electronic load (AC +DC) and being a battery emulator. We have experienced very good support from TTMS in obtaining these two Cinergia units. This included organising an on-site demonstration and supplying loan systems prior to the delivery of our final systems. This way we could start testing as early as possible. TTMS also organised training for the operators from the original manufacturer. This support allowed us to introduce the first battery energy storage systems even prior to the full delivery of the Cinergia systems."

“At the Energy and Environment department of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) of the University of Luxembourg we do have different research projects related to green energy contributing to the development of eco-cities. As a long-standing partner of our research unit, TT&MS has proven that they are able to answer even the most complex questions in a professional manner. They have shown that they are always up to date with the latest technology and do not spare any effort to look at the application and even the situation on site. The exchange of ideas was always very pleasant and took place quickly. We look forward to further years of fruitful cooperation.”
