The new generation Itech IT8900A/E series high performance DC Loads has been launched by Itech in June. This series for power ratings from 2 kW to 54 kW has a high power density: 6 kW at 4U height. By means of master-slave parallel connection, electrical power can be loaded up to 384 kW. The IT8900A/E series DC loads work for currents up to 2400 A and are available in the voltage ranges 150 V, 600 V and 1200 V.
The new generation IT8900E series high performance DC Loads features standard CC, CR, CP and CV operation. In addition, the IT8900A series also features the combined CC+CV mode. This solves the problem of short peak currents when testing, for example, charging stations. CV+CR setting makes it possible to simulate the ripple when testing LED drivers. This makes it possible to improve the speed and stability of the control loop, also with PWM dimming. Furthermore, the IT8900A series offers CR+CC and CP+CC mode. This allows a wide range of tests to be performed.
Both versions, both the E and A version, can be controlled with analog input by PLC or signal generator. For automated test environments this is almost essential and works very directly. The speed of the control loop is adjustable in CV operation. This allows the load to be properly adjusted to the power supply to be tested and prevents interference. In parallel operation of several units, CC/CV mode remains available. There are functions for battery testing, automatic testing and short-circuit testing.
These high power loads are designed for various tests in industry, defence, aerospace and aerospace such as charging stations, discharge of (car) batteries, server power supplies, telecommunication power supplies, energy storage systems, fuses, relays, generators, inverters including solar and wind energy and UPS.
The control can be analog, but also via the front panel or via a host computer. The host can be connected via RS232, USB, GPIB, CAN and LAN. For the new generation Itech IT8900A/E series high performance DC Loads there are also several software tools available, as well as the Labview drivers.
The IT8900A/E has extensive OVP, OCP, OPP, OTP anti-reverse, current limit and power limit protections and may be overloaded for a short time.

"The ABB Power Grids Jumet organisation is an innovative development and production facility of ABB that manufactures active filters and battery energy storage systems to support a stable grid. To test these systems we have acquired two Cinergia GE/EL +120kVA eplus units capable of doing grid emulation (AC + DC), operating as an electronic load (AC +DC) and being a battery emulator.
