Regenerative Battery Emulator from Cinergia
Cinergia’s Regenerative Battery Emulator is part of a line of bi-directional regenerative DC inverters.
Features
The B2C+ series Regenerative Battery Emulators are four-quadrant DC power supplies designed to behave like real battery packs. The B2C+ with battery emulation functionality features a mathematical model to emulate the voltage behavior of a real battery pack. The output voltage changes as a function of SOC and current. By configuring the included parameters, the voltage profile can be adapted to different technologies: LiIon, NiMH, NiCd, Pb, Flux, and so on.
Three regenerative four-quadrant DC power supplies are available per cabinet, which can be used either independently or in parallel. The output voltage ranges from 20 V to 750 V (optional 800 V). By connecting two units in series, voltages up to 1500 V can be achieved.
Power ranges from 7.5 kW to 160 kW in a single battery emulator unit. By parallel connection, larger powers can be emulated through a single master with one or more slave units.
Thus, this regenerative battery emulator works as both a DC power supply and a DC electronic load. Thanks to the bidirectional hardware, when discharging, energy is supplied back to the grid instead of being converted entirely into heat as with most DC loads.
Battery testing and battery emulation require specialized control algorithms and configuration parameters. For these applications, CINERGIA has incorporated advanced control algorithms that are processed in real time in the DSP, such as: constant current/constant voltage (IUoU) profiles for the battery charge and discharge cycle as a battery model. For the PLUS product family, each of these functions is controlled via a dedicated screen in the user interface. The battery test panel is included in the standard B2C+ and is available as an option for the AC/DC versions of the GE+ and EL+.
The controller board of this power supply has been updated and now uses 300 kHz oversampling on the measured current and voltage. This has increased resolution and together with low-noise measurements has ensured even better dynamic behavior (< 1 ms). The new board offers independent setpoints per channel, independent configurable virtual resistance per channel (sink/source), programmable flanks and advanced functions for battery test applications (charge/discharge/cycle).
Adjustable limits and alarms for current, voltage, overcurrent, overvoltage and overload protect both the DUT and the unit. The new controller board also allows the automation of test cycles by configuring the number of cycles and transition conditions: min/max voltage, min/max current, Ah, time. Parameters and profiles can be easily read in and out via a .csv file.
Also new are analog inputs where you can use the B2C+ units as amplifiers for PHIL (Power Hardware in the Loop).
Applications
The regenerative battery emulator is ideally suited for two-quadrant and four-quadrant applications: testing battery chargers, testing inverters for electromobility and renewable energy; testing energy storage systems and Vehicle to Grid (V2G) testing.
