Magna-Power DC loads: the ALx, ARx en WRx series

Magna-Power has been known for many years as a manufacturer of robust DC power supplies in the range from 1.6kW to 2MW+, with voltages up to 10kV and currents up to 24kA. These Magna-Power DC loads obviously need to be developed and tested, and with the knowledge Magna-Power has gained from this, they now come up with a complete model series of DC loads.

The ALx series is based on linear MOSfet technology, as seen with other manufacturers. The powers in this series are limited to 2.5kW. Due to Magna-Power’s specific heat management system, which is also used in the compact power supplies, proper and long-term operation is guaranteed even at higher ambient temperatures.
The ARx series is a series based on the completely newly developed active resistor technology. This combines linear mosfet technology with a network of high-power resistors that can be switched binary.

This has two major advantages. One is the price of this load, and two is the speed at which the resistor can be varied. The ARx series ranges from 7.5kW to 45kW+. The WRx series is based on the same technology as the ARx series but combined with a specifically developed water-cooled cooling block. The powers in this series range from 15kW to 120kW +.

These loads are designed for testing DC power supplies, DC-DC converters, batteries, solar panels, fuel cells, etc. Naturally, these models can be used in development, quality control and production.
